Habitual Prayer

Jesse (June 24th, 2005)

I feel God really put this on my heart as I've been practicing getting in the habit of prayer, so simple it is indeed but so powerful. So we go around doing our everyday things; eating, driving, socializing, or anything else. But how often do we pray? Do we say our prayers exclusively in the morning, or a "By the way, Thanks" prayer at night?

Do we only speak to God when we need something, or when in a crisis? I confess I used to. But I've gotten into the habit of praying and focusing on God during times I'm starting up the car, or walking the dogs. Just praying in the Spirit, as much as I can. When I say habit, don't think of that as something bad, the definition of habit is: 'resorted to on a regular basis.' This is a Great Habit not a bad habit.

Prayer; the most powerful tool we have to use, why don't we use the benefit as much as possible? The strength is not ours, remember we pray to God for his strength. He wants us to rely on his power, not our own. He does not want us to go about our own way to settle things, or get even, he wants us to pray and trust Him.

What would happen if you started praying 5 minutes longer than you usually do? What would happen if you started thinking of God more than what you are currently occupied with? Remember when you pray focus on God, though you may utter things with your tongues you may not understand when speaking in the Spirit, keep your thoughts focused on God! What would happen? I think you would get closer to God, I think you would see God move more in your life.

I encourage you to get into a habit of prayer, make it a lifestyle. What are your needs? Even the small things, Pray! God listens, God hears, God answers. Bless you, I hope you find a deeper relationship in God, because its our communication that will build this relationship. A relationship is ongoing, always growing, keep the fire burning!
