Digging for Treasure
I was standing outside of a mine where men were digging. They had spent weeks in the mine, and later I learned they did this for years. The mine was cold and dark but even after so many years the men were not weary, alternatively they were ambitious and determined.
They used their picks and broke through tons of worthless rock. There were explosions and the mine was filled with rock dust. They did this day after day looking for something. When nothing seemed to come about, and it seemed like they weren't digging anywhere I heard someone yell, 'I found gold!'.
When I heard this I yelled down the mine hole, 'Bring me up some treasure, I need some!' But when a worker came out of the mine with gold in his hand he said to me, 'You have been on the surface all this time, we have been digging for years, this is our reward. If you want treasure, you must pickup a pick and labor for yourself.'
Later in the day while they put their feet up at a cafe they shared their stories. A stranger sitting near turned around jealously and said to himself, 'You don't deserve that gold, look at my life, I am in need.'
A miner overheard him and said, 'Sir, we have been seeking, laboring and suffering to find this treasure. The mine hole is right down the road, if you want gold of your own go and dig in that mine. You can even use our tools.'
The stranger grumbled, 'How do I know there is gold in there anyways? I do not have time for that, I have things to do.'
The story means this:
I tell people there is a book that promises new life, an abundant life, unbelievable love and freedom. But they don't believe me.
I say if you dig in this book and apply it to your life, you will find this precious treasure. But they say, I don't have time, why don't you prove your God to me. You have so many blessings, where are mine?
I say, they are for you too but you have to dig in this book, the treasure is there. But they say, I do not have time for that it is foolish.
They say, I don't want to get dirty. Or, I don't want anyone to know I'm seeking Jesus Christ. They don't want anyone to know they are taking a lower position because they want to protect their reputation.
Just seek me and you will find me - God
